Hi, I’m Octavia—founder of Summit Ridge K9, dog trainer, and lifelong animal lover. I live on a quiet animal sanctuary in California, surrounded by nature, rescue animals, and my own dogs who inspire me every day. My mission is to help both dogs and their humans build stronger, more fulfilling relationships rooted in trust, communication, and understanding.

I grew up on a farm in a small town in upstate New York, where my love for animals—especially dogs—truly took root. After high school, I began working at a boarding and daycare facility, where I gained hands-on experience learning how dogs interact, communicate, and behave in a variety of settings.

My journey into professional dog training began with my first rescue, Marley—a German Shepherd/Lab mix with a big heart and a lot to learn. Wanting to give him the best life possible, I started shadowing his trainer and eventually began working alongside her. That experience opened my eyes to the powerful transformation that can happen when a dog feels truly understood.

After moving to California, I stepped into the veterinary field and worked as a Veterinary Assistant, gaining even more insight into animal health and behavior. While I loved helping animals in that capacity, I missed the deep, personal connection that comes from training—especially working closely with both dogs and their people.

My second rescue, Bentley, came to me with intense reactivity. Helping him overcome his challenges solidified my belief that training isn’t just about obedience—it’s about healing, understanding, and building lasting trust.

At Summit Ridge K9, my approach is relationship-driven and rooted in balance. Every dog is unique, and my goal is to meet you where you are—to support and guide you toward a more peaceful, confident, and connected life with your dog.
